Honors Diploma Criteria


In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code 3301.12.07, a student may earn an Honors Diploma by meeting the following criteria:

  1. The student who completes the college preparatory curriculum in the high school shall meet any seven of the following eight criteria:

    1. Earn 4 units of English

    2. Earn 4 units of mathematics, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or equivalent and another higher level course or a four-year sequence of courses that contain equivalent content.

    3. Earn 4 units of science, including physics and chemistry

    4. Earn 4 units in social studies

    5. Earn 3 units in Foreign Language (must include no less than 2 units for which credit is sought) i.e., 3 units of one language or 2 units each of two languages.

    6. Earn 1 unit in Fine Arts

    7. Maintain an overall high school grade point average of at least 3.5 on a four-point scale up to the last grading period of the senior year.

    8. Obtain a composite score of 27 on the ACT or 1210 on the SAT


  1. The student who completes at least two years of an intensive vocational or technical education curriculum in the high school shall meet any seven of the following eight criteria:

    1. Earn 4 units of English

    2. Earn 4 units of mathematics, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or equivalent and another higher level course or a four-year sequence of courses that contain equivalent content.

    3. Earn 4 units of science, including physics and chemistry

    4. Earn 4 units in social studies

    5. Earn a minimum of 4 units in Career-Technical education.  Program must lead to an industry-recognized credential, apprenticeship or be part of an articulated career pathway that can lead to post secondary credit.

    6. Maintain an overall high school grade point average of at least 3.5 on a four-point scale up to the last grading period of the senior year.

    7. Obtain a composite score of 27 on the ACT or 1210 on the

    8. Achieve the proficiency benchmark established for the appropriate Ohio Career- Technical Competency Assessment of the equivalent.
